When people think about motorsport, they often focus on what happens when the lights go out to start the race. The overtakes. The pressure. The split-second decisions. But ask any racing driver, and they’ll tell you that performance isn’t created in those moments. It’s built long before they arrive.

That’s something we’ve come to appreciate through our sponsorship of young karting driver Oliver Bamford-Senior, AKA O.B.S. Watching Oliver’s journey has reinforced an important lesson that applies just as much to enterprise technology as it does to motorsport: when the pressure is on, you rely on your preparation.

Every Week is an Opportunity to Improve

One of the interesting things Oliver told us was that he doesn’t really have a “typical” training week. Instead, he sees every week as an opportunity to become a better driver, whether that’s spending time in the simulator, improving his fitness or analysing previous races. Progress isn’t reserved for race weekends. It’s something he’s constantly working towards. That philosophy resonates strongly with us.

At Lucid, successful enterprise AV deployments don’t happen because everything goes perfectly on launch day. They succeed because of the work that happens beforehand. Standardised software, careful planning, rigorous testing and continuous refinement all help ensure systems perform consistently when organisations need them most.

Motorsport demands complete concentration. Oliver’s pre-race routine is surprisingly simple. Once he’s sitting in the kart, he keeps to himself, lets his mind settle and, in the final moments before the race begins, focuses entirely on what’s ahead.

It’s a reminder that confidence isn’t about eliminating pressure. It’s about knowing you’ve prepared well enough to deal with it.
